2017年度第２次試験＜受験レポート＞（18）11：00～12：00（三鷹の森ジブリ美術館）

●試験内容
【１】日本人試験官
男性。40代。大学の先生？ずっとしかめ面でした。
Date of birthの発音が分からず、2回も聞き直してしまいました。
ネイティブの方が言い直してくださって、それでやっと分かりました。
その後、プレゼン中はずっと厳しい目で、質問は1つもありませんでした。

男性。40代。大学教授風。非常に優しい感じでした。この方が全て質問されました。
【３】通訳の問題文
三鷹の森ジブリ美術館は、東京の三鷹市にある市立のアニメーション美術館です。館長は宮崎駿で、「となりのトトロ」や「魔女の宅急便」などの絵コンテを展示しています。台湾、香港、オーストラリア（豪州）などから、多い時には一日1000人以上の訪日外国人が訪れます。

【５】プレゼンの内容
I would like to talk about votive tablet. Usually you can buy that at shrine. It costs around 1000yen.
When you pray something for deity or after dreams come true, you buy that and hang down it in the grounds of shrine. For example most of the students when they would like to pass the entrance exam buy that.
In the past, people dedicated living horse, "E" means picture and "Ma" means horse, but now small white horse are drawn on the tablet.

私：Ah…, Sorry?
A：What kind of things votive tablet is?
私：Sorry..., I cannot get what you are asking.
A：Okay, what votive tablet is like? made from what?
私：Ah! It is made of wood!
A：And what do you do on it?
私：Ah! we write down our wish on it!
A：Oh, you mean it is blank at first?
私：Yes, yes yes!
A：What kind of things are usually written on them?
私：Umm, when praying for passing the entrance exam. and for longevity or when you wish for a good year.
A Okay, okay.
私： On the first day of the year, we Japanese go to shrine and…
A： Are there anything interesting(funny?) written on them?
私： Yes, lately, animation is getting popular, so I watched some character was drawn on it.
A： Ah, only picture, no writing?
私 Yes, yes yes!
A： … People often bring something like arrow, what is that?
私： That is called "Hamaya", that wards off the evil spirits.
A： Where do you put them after getting it back to home?
私： In the room of house.
A： Any particular place in the house?
私：Ah, I am not sure, just in the room.
Sorry, I think in the alcove or hanging it at the entrance, maybe.
Oh, I will look it up and…
A： Okay okay okay!
After one year later you bring it back to the shrine and replace the new one, right?
私：Yes, yes yes!

1次試験は、100％ 植山先生のお蔭で、一般常識を突破できました。本当にありがとうございました。
その後もセミナーに参加させて頂いたり、メルマガで励まされたり、大変心強かったです。感謝しかありません。
今日の2次試験は、散々でした。ものすごい時間をかけて、83題について覚えこんだのですが、この絵馬に関しては、うろ覚えだったところもあったため、最悪な2次試験となってしまいました。
しかし、悔しいのが、他の回だったら、ペラペラと完璧に披露できるほど覚えこんだものが必ず1つはお題に入っていたので（全て植山先生が教えてくださっていた題なのですが）、本当に悔しいです。
まあ、気を取り直して、来年は、「日本的事象英文説明300選」を全て2分間で言えるように完全に繰り返して、必ず受かろうと思います。

「日本的事象英文説明300選」の＜絵馬の説明＞
絵馬は願いごとが書かれた、絵付きの板である。絵馬は特別な願いごとがあったり、祈願者の願いがかなえられたときに、神社や寺に納めるものである。かつては生きた馬が納められていたため、板には馬の絵を載せたものがある。
Ema is a picture tablet on which a wish is written. It is offered to a shrine or temple when one prays for a particular blessing or when a prayer has been answered. The tablet sometimes bears a picture of a horse because people once offered real horses.
